Maxwell - 1 Month

It is hard to believe that it has been one month already since this little guy came into our world. He has changed so much already, all for the good, and everyone agrees that he is a keeper! Lily has jumped in to help Mom and Dad whenever she is allowed even changing Max's diaper. I am the paci master and am at an almost 100% success rate when it comes to getting Max to take his pacifier. Max remains a pretty chill little man only crying when hungry, cold, or he has a dirty diaper. We quickly realized that he LOVES to eat and loudly expresses his satisfaction with a lip smack after every bottle. He shares cuddles with anyone able and willing, and is great on car rides and is most frequently found sleeping just about anywhere. Max has grown quite a bit during the month packing on nearly two pounds. He quickly outgrew his newborn clothes and fits solidly into 0-3 clothes now. His big milestone for the month is rolling from his tummy to his back which typically doesn't occur until 3-4 months. This only took him 19 days to master, which beats my record of 38 days. He usually quiets whenever he hears music of any genre as if he is taking it all in. Although typically calm he does have a few dislikes which include tummy time and having his diaper changed. With all of the changes we've seen this past month we can't wait to see what the next month has in store for Max!

Girlfriend

Max was lucky enough to meet one of his future girlfriends today for a lunch date. Mary Grace was born just over seven weeks before him and I am sure they will have many more dates to come!

Max's 3 Week Checkup

At 23 days old, Max headed up to Cedarburg to see Dr. Hagerman today for his 3 week checkup. He received another clean bill of health and was right on track for growth. Dr. Hagerman refers to him as petite, coming in at only 19.75 inches (3rd percentile), but he was quick to point out that their means of measurement is not fool proof so he may be a bit taller than that. As for weight he was 9 pounds (42nd percentile) and declared a healthy eater. He heads back up for another check at around 2 months of age so we'll see then what progress he has made.

There isn't a time or a place that this kid can't fall asleep!!!

We Have a Roller

Just like me (Ryan), Max has mastered the skill of rolling from his tummy to his back quite early. Anytime he is placed on his tummy he rolls now which leads me to believe that he enjoys tummy time about as much as I did when I was his age (insert sarcasm)!

Due Date

Today is Maxwell's official due date, but we are so glad that he decided to show up a bit early into this world because the past twelve days have been amazing. Even though we spend most of our time watching the little man sleep, he is just so much fun to be around. Lily especially loves taking care of her little brother and has dove head first into feedings and diaper changes. I, on the other hand, tend to be a more casual observer who takes everything in from a safe distance. All of us though are falling more and more in love with him every day, and we can't wait to watch him grow before our eyes.

Max's First Doctor Appointment

Max visited Dr. Hagerman at his office for the first time today and was sent home with a clean bill of health. He has regained all of the weight he lost since birth plus some coming in at 7 pounds 14 ounces. That is a nine ounce gain since coming home from the hospital which is quite impressive. He obviously takes after his brother when it comes to eating! He also came in at 19.5 inches long, which although on the small side, is still on the charts! Keep up the good work Max!

1 Week Old

We're not sure if it is more accurate to say Max survived his first week with us, or we survived our first week with Max. In all honestly it really hasn't been that different, although I'm sure if you ask Mom and Dad they may have a different answer. All of our fears of Max keeping us up at night with his crying and the house smelling like stinky diapers were quickly put to rest. I'm sure we are a bit partial, but Max really is an awesome little brother. He only cries when cold, he loves to be cuddled(and Lily loves to provide the cuddles), he could beat each and every one of us in a tooting contest, he may eat more than I did at the same age (if that is humanly possible), he loves car rides, and he loves to pee on Dad. Lily has been a good big sister learning how to change diapers and how to feed him a bottle. She loves to be Mommy's and Daddy's helper. I, on the other hand, just love to chat with Max about all things life is bringing his way. To celebrate Max we took some family pictures today, and even I will admit it was kind of fun. We are slowly comprehending what it means to now have a baby brother in our lives, and it is amazing to us how much room we have in our hearts to just love him. Happy 1 week birthday little man!!!

Family of Five

Just like that we went from being a family of four to being a family of five. Maxwell has been here for one week now, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we never knew we could love another little person so much!

Visitors

Having a new baby in the house means lots of visitors. While they may all be here to see Max, we make sure to get in some quality time with all of them as well.
