Ryan's February School Art

February was the month of the dinosaurs...Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Apatosaurus, Stegosaurus...you name it we learned about it.  We even learned about the Pteranodon which was actually a flying reptile, not a dinosaur.  As if we weren't busy enough with all things dinosaur, we decided to throw in a little 100 Days celebration, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Valentine's Day too!  We also worked on the letters N, R, and V; and the numbers 13, 14, 15, and 16.  We ended our dinosaur unit a little late, in early March, but we made sure to go out with a bang (maybe that's how the dinosaurs did it too?).  We put on a Dinosaur Blast for family and friends with Lily taking on the role of a triceratops and I was a paleontologist.  We also learned a ton of songs about dinosaurs which we performed as well.  It is too bad dinosaurs are extinct, because we sure would like to find out more about these amazing creatures.

Young Rembrandts Week 2

RyanLily
Our project this week involved drawing a certain animal that you may find at the zoo.  It is yellow and has a long neck...any guesses???  A giraffe!!!  I know many of you are probably wondering why my background is mostly white, while Lily's is all blue...the answer is really quite simple, I simply got tired of coloring so I stopped (insert smile here).

He's Back

Last year when Frosty melted away, Mom had promised that he would be back again next year.  Well today, almost one year to the day (February 24 last year), Frosty made his triumphant return to our backyard.  He was missing a few buttons, his eyes, a nose, and mouth (all somewhere in our garage); but thanks to some quick thinking by Mom, a carrot, and a few nuts the problem was solved.  Along with Wrigley, we headed into the woods to find some arms.  I think we returned with around five sticks, one each for Lily and me, and three for Wrigley.  Apparently three wasn't enough for him though, because he managed to snatch one of Frosty's arms when we weren't looking.  Thankfully, Mom got it back before too much damage was done.  With only a few gnaw marks, Mom stuck it back on, and Frosty was as good as new!  This year was fun because we helped out with the rolling and packing of the snow.  Mom was so impressed with our snowman making abilities that she surprised us with a tunnel to play in afterwards.  Combine Frosty and a tunnel, and it doesn't get much better for these two jolly, happy souls!

Young Rembrandts Week 1

LilyRyan
We started the Young Rembrandts art program today after school.  We do one project every Tuesday for the next six weeks focusing on specific art skills.  This was today's project - a cupcake, present, party hat, and confetti.  We are the only 4K kids in the class, but we are learning so much and have become quite the little Picassos here in our world!

Pampering My Little Piggies

My little piggies were treated to their very first pedicure today.  I cannot begin to tell you just how excited I was about this new adventure.  To put it into perspective for you, I skipped out on a classmate's birthday party so I could get my toes done, and everyone knows how much I love parties!  I went all out choosing three different colors, and then they surprised me with the most beautiful flowers on my big toes.  I loved every little thing about it and definitely felt like a princess.  My only question is when can I get my fingernails done?!?!

Valentine's

Even though we had our Valentine's done by January 19 this year, we eagerly anticipated the actual day!!!  This year I went with a "crazy" theme giving everyone silly straws.  Lily chose a "bounce" theme wrapping up bouncy balls for all our friends.  We were able to wear pink or red tops with our uniform bottoms so Mom picked us up some cool shirts.  We are definitely ready to spread the love here in our world!

Valentine's Craft

Project Valentine's Day wreath commenced shortly after getting home from school today.  Our mission was to fill an entire heart with different colored tissue paper by wrapping the tissue squares around a pencil and then carefully gluing them into place on the heart.  Lily took the project a little bit more seriously than I did (I just wanted Mom to keep taking my picture), but the project kept us busy for nearly an hour, and the outcome was a beautiful wreath for Mommy to hang on our front door.  Mission accomplished!

Dad's Birthday

Daddy turned the big "36" today and we celebrated by making him a giant poster full of hearts, butterflies, Christmas trees, sunflowers, orchards, oceans, and jungle gyms.

Field Trip

This week we celebrated Catholic Schools week at school.  The week was filled with fun - dressing in lots of themes (Sports Day Monday, Color Day Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Spirit Wear Friday), and service - visiting a nearby assisted living residence where we sang songs and delivered Valentine's vases filled with tissue paper flowers.  We capped off the busy week with an all school mass, a quick game of Don't Throw Your Junk in My Backyard while waiting for the buses, and a field trip to Betty Brinn Children's Museum.  It made for one long day (especially because it did not involve naps), but it was so worth it!  Mom decided to brave the extra long school day along with us, and she joined us for all of the above.  Betty Brinn was the highlight of the day with Mom being in charge of Lily, myself, and three of our crazy friends.  Mom's only job was to not lose the five of us, which was no easy task in a huge museum with lots of rooms, thousands of things to do,and each of us wanting to go someplace different.  She somehow kept the crew together though, and we managed to have fun every step of the way.  Just to name a few of our favorite things...we loaded coal onto conveyor belts, flew a space ship, did a little grocery shopping, danced, put on a puppet show, piloted a submarine, climbed through someone's nose, made it through a maze, discovered carnival mirrors, and drove a bus.  After a fun filled week, and especially crazy day, it is a good thing we have Monday off to recover here in our world!
