Ryan's January School Art

This month's topic was Mexico.  We learned all about the food they eat, the clothes they wear, and the animals and plants that live there too.  We learned some Mexican dances, and how to count in Spanish.  We ended the unit by having a Mexican Fiesta.  We also studied the book the Princess and the Pea in art class this month.  We painted her bed and made characters so that we can act out the story at home.

Recycling

Today, I alone recycled a pickle jar because Ryan felt he had more important things to do like play video games.  I know you're thinking that this isn't very exciting, but just look what my pickle jar became...a beautiful Valentine's votive holder.  What do you think of my pickle jar now?

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

Today we headed to our first play at Marquette's Helfaer Theatre.  The play was called Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, and it just happens to be one of our favorite children's books as well.  They did change a few things which kept us at the edge of our seats.  For those of you who have had a chance to enjoy the book you will understand when we say "Wow, that's about all we can say, WOW!"

Mommy/Daughter Princess Party

Daddy decided to join a new club in town, and just in the nick of time because they held their annual Mommy/Daughter princess party the week after he joined.  The date couldn't come quick enough here in my world, and the night was made even better because my friend, Katelyn, and her mommy joined us for the evening.  Katelyn and I planned our outfits, both wearing our Rapunzel dresses, and made a pact that we'd dance to every Rapunzel song we heard.  We enjoyed every single minute of the night from the jewelry making, to eating the prettiest cupcakes we've ever seen, to dancing the night away with Snow White, Cinderella, and Belle.  Everything was so beautiful in the grand ballroom and it was all for us!  They even presented us with princess wands when we arrived (Katelyn and I chose matching wands of course) and Snow White's prince gave us all beautiful rings when we left for the night.  It truly was a dream come true!

Chapter Books

After a recent trip to the public library we were introduced to chapter books by Mom.  We were quite hesitant at first to embark on this adventure after Mom informed us that a lot of chapter books don't have pictures, but we were willing to give it a try.  Mom selected My Father's Dragon as our first book, and we couldn't be happier.  There are a few pictures for us to look at, but we really don't need them because the story itself is so good!  We beg Mom after every chapter to read just one more.  Sometimes she obliges, but other times we are left hanging to dream about what may happen next.  The suspense is torture, although I had some relief when I figured out last night (just by looking at a map on the back of the cover) what the next chapter is about.  We only have a few chapters left before we reach the end, but Mom is prepared as she checked out one other chapter book, The Mouse and The Motorcycle, for us to enjoy before our books are due.  Who would have thought not having pictures could be so good!!!

Twinkle Toes

Notice anything different about my feet?  Those are not ballet slippers that you see, but good old fashioned tap shoes.  I love everything about them from the buckle on top to the extra loud noises I can make from the heels and toes down below.  We just started tap this month, and I couldn't be happier!  I love tap-tap-tapping around here in our world!

1 Out Of 2 Ain't Bad

This year we were determined to make it until midnight so that we could ring in the New Year, but only one of us was successful in our quest.  Any guesses?  I give Lily an A for effort though since she made it until around 11:45 PM.  We tried waking her so that she could see the crystal ball drop, but despite our best efforts she was officially out for the night.  Shortly after the celebration Daddy took Lily upstairs, but Mom and I stayed downstairs because the party was just getting started!  Or so I thought...Mom fell asleep within minutes and woke a short time later to tell me I had to go to bed as well.  I can't complain though because I got to stay up way past my bedtime, and from what I understand we get to do it all again next year!  Happy New Year everyone!
