Disney Birthday Surprise

Today we turn 8 and little did we know that we were in for a giant surprise! Around 4:30 this morning we were woken up by Dad telling us that he had something important to share with us. He led us to a slip of paper and told us to follow the clues. If you know us, you know that we will never turn down a good scavenger hunt so off we went not knowing where each and every clue would lead us to. In the end we were presented with three boxes with the final box containing the magical words "Disney World!!!" To say we were stunned is an understatement. We had started to suspect that Mom and Dad had something up their sleeves for our birthday, but never in a million years did we think we'd be going to Disney World...especially in 15 minutes!!!

Goodbye Wrigley

"People are born so that they can learn to live a good life - like loving everybody all the time and being nice.... Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

We lost an extraordinary one today as Wrigley passed peacefully away with Mom and Dad by his side late this morning. He taught us so much in our almost eight years on earth with the most important being the meaning of unconditional love. He was a dog who brought so much joy and fun not only to our family, but to everyone who met him, and there is so much about him that will be remembered...

-his rolling in the grass the minute he got outside
-his amazing ability to distinguish between his stuffed animals and ours
- his tail that truly was a dangerous weapon
-his uncanny ability to cheer you up when you were sad
-his "roll" game where he'd simply lay on the floor and roll the ball back and forth, back and forth, back and forth with you using his nose
-his super sensitive nose and his ability to find his present in a stack of twenty other presents without fail, and then open it before asking permission
-Wiggles Bo Biggles, D-O-G, Piggly, and his many other nicknames
-his love of rolling in the snow, going for walks, and peanut butter ice cream
-his need to sleep by Mom in spite of my endless attempts to get him to sleep with me (LILY)
-his favorite things to hear were "go for ride", "walk", "want a treat", or "get your ball"
- his ability to tell the difference between his octopus, his rabbit, his dragon, his bear, his ball, his Frisbee, his rope, and his bone
-he was the world's largest lapdog
-his love of tug o' war especially with Morgan
-his deep sigh every night before he turned in for the night
-his refusal to allow anyone to hug his mom for more then 10 seconds...if you tried you faced endless barking or a good shove by his nose
-his LOVE of chap stick
-his strong back legs that when touched in a particular way caused him to rabbit kick you and earned his medical chart in AZ to be labeled with the words "freakishly strong"
-his love of swimming in the lake up at the cottage, our pool we had in AZ, or his kiddie pool we pulled out every summer
-his speed when chasing squirrels, deer, or bunnies in our yard
-his quiet nature where he would rather stand outside for hours than bark to have you let him in
-his journeys to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and cross country with Daddy and Uncle Choo-Choo
-his long walks in the canals with Grandpa Wayne in Arizona
-his green bean diet
-the magic words "ALL DONE" that he never disobeyed
-his need to go outside the minute after you sat down even if you had just asked him
-how he would "tear" around the yard or house for no apparent reason
-his love of having his butt scratched

We could go on and on because he was just that amazing, and who knows we may add more to the list as time goes on. Feel free to comment if you have any good ones too as we love to hear Wrigley stories.

His illness was sudden and maybe that is what made it so hard to say goodbye or to believe he is really gone. We of course stole a few pictures of our last days together, and Wrigley mustered up the strength to walk outside with us this morning and see us off to school. It was his final goodbye to us, and one that we appreciated. I took time last night to draw a picture for everyone and taped some of Wrigley's hair to each one. The picture includes his water dish, collar, orange ball, food with his green beans, and Wrigley playing in the sun. This is what we want to remember, and slowly we will learn to go on without Wrigley, but he will always be tucked in our hearts. We love you buddy!

Stinky Dog

Tonight the smelliest, stinkiest, most rotten thing you could ever think of happened...Wrigley was sprayed in the face by a skunk that was sitting right outside our back porch. It happened right before Mom and Dad went to bed, and somehow we both managed to sleep through all of the commotion. Probably a good thing considering he was quite the stinky dog!

Last Minute Visit

Some last minute planning by AJ resulted in a surprise visit early this morning by the man himself. We couldn't have been any happier...until Mom told us he was spending the night! This meant AJ got to join us on our Saturday adventures which included a trip to the Holy Hill Art Farm and the Basilica. On the way home we made a pit stop at the Skull Bowl. We just couldn't resist as we were amazed by the number of skeletons in one yard. We had to pull Ryan out of the car to take a picture since he prefers to remain 100 yards from anything wearing green and gold, but he reluctantly cooperated, and even managed to smile. We love surprises here in our world!

Cub Scouts

It is official, I am finally a Cub Scout! I've been wanting to do this for a few years now, but with our schedules I had to draw the line somewhere. Now that Dad is home though we have a bit more flexibility so I jumped at the chance to join. We've already participated in a few events - food drive, annual wreath sale, and the Lion's Den Gorge hike. I have the entire outfit as well, and need to thank Grandma Jackie for sewing on my 5 million patches! I can't wait to see what adventures we go on, and I am especially excited for the Pinewood Derby!

The Elegant Farmer

The annual tradition continues...apple picking with the Lards at The Elegant Farmer. With summer deciding to stick around for awhile we couldn't have asked for a better day to enjoy apple cider doughnuts, the corn maze, and apple picking. The corn maze this year was bigger and better so much so that we lost half of the crew somewhere in the middle. With time and a the help of a mini search crew we found them all and headed back to the orchard to fill our 1/2 bushels. We picked (and sampled) almost every variety they had to offer filling our basket until it was overflowing. We just love apple picking and are already dreaming of the yummy applesauce and apple crisps that will follow!

Fun AND Relaxation

With no plans on the calendar and Dad out of town we decided to head up to Cedarburg to enjoy the Wine and Harvest Festival. The weather could not have been better, but after walking around for a few hours our little feet were tired. This led to a trip to the library where we were able to lose ourselves in a few good books. There is nothing better than fun and relaxation!

Say Cheese

Our official second grade pictures have arrived. This year they got a bit fancy giving us our very own book of photographs which includes a free calendar with a giant picture of us front and center. I guess who wouldn't want to look at our smiling faces every day!?!?

Lego Creation

Mom was at the library today and stumbled across the most amazing Lego creation ever! It just happened to be made by yours truly a few weeks ago at Lego Club. This beauty includes gems, a tv, a fully stocked kitchen, a skate ramp, a garage, and a roof deck. Not bad if I do say so myself!

Hello Second Grade!

Waking up bright and early this morning was not the most pleasant experience to be honest with you, but once reality set in that there was no way we were getting out of our first day of school we decided to roll with it. It really wasn't all that bad, and the bus remembered to pick us up this year which was a bonus! In the end I described my first day of second grade as "good" and Lily used the word "fun" so we'll mark it down as a success here in our world!
